Amber Fort

Situated in Amber which is 11 km away from Jaipur, Amber Fort is one of the most popular forts in Rajasthan. Built by Raja Man Singh in 1592, the fort was the anchor fortress of the ruling clan Kachhawa, before the capital city was shifted to Jaipur.

This fort is most famous for the unique blend of Mughal and Hindu artistic styles and elements and also the breathtakingly ornate artistic mastery. It is also famous for its magnificent wooden carvings and the breathtaking minute mirror work all over the fort. Bordering the Maota Lake, this is a major tourist spot in Rajasthan. The fort is easily accessible and has several modes of transport that a tourist could deploy to reach the spot such as local buses and taxis.

Architecture

Usually pronounced as Amer Fort, the fort has been constructed using red sandstone and white marble. The construction work started during the reign of Raja Man Singh I, but it took shape and gained its present form during the rule of Raja Jai Singh I. The exterior of the fort is craggy and rough which is a total contrast to the interiors.

The fort has been hugely influenced by both the Hindu and Muslim method of ornamentation. There are several paintings that hung on the walls of the fortress depicting hunting scenes and the spirit of the Rajputs.

The Rajput clan is known to be adventurous, self indulgent and revolutionary. The paintings and the work in the fort is a great example of their way of living. The huge and mighty walls of the fort have provided protection against invasion of enemies for several years.

Attraction

The construction using red sandstone and white marble offers a striking contrast and makes the fort look stunning. The lake Maotha in its foreground also adds to the charm of this stunning piece of architecture.

Many tourists find the image of this stunning fort on the still waters of the lake really breathtaking. However, the minute mirror work and the intricate carvings is even more breathtaking on the walls and ceilings of the fort and are quite a piece of work. This is one of the main attractions which captivate all the tourists who visit this fort.

The fort has four sections, The Kali temple also known as the Shila Devi Temple, the Hall of Public Audience, also known as Diwan-I-Aam, Ganesh Pol and the Hall of victory, also known as the Jai Mandir.

Apart from these main sections, there are several other attractions such as halls and pavilions that have several attractions of their own.

Reaching Amber Fort

What is most exciting about the visit to Amber fort is the mode of transportation that tourists can avail. Located on a crafty hill, you can reach the fort by a royal elephant ride and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this fort on your way. This is the way that royalty used to travel and now tourists can enjoy the same luxury too.

A trip to the princely state is incomplete without a visit to the Amber Fort.
